June

May has finished colder than we were expecting, and also drier. It seems the eastern states have only just begun to understand that were are drought affected, I guess they had a lot to think about with the dreadful rains…

Mount Pleasant farewelled some well loved people during May, including David McQueen, Colin Fawcett and Les Modra. All will be missed by those who knew them and our sincere condolences go out to their loved ones.

History Festival was celebrated widely in the district, and although we didn’t mount a huge display this year, there were plenty of displays and events around the district.

May ended with Reconciliation Week, and this year marks the 25th anniversary of the Federal Government’s apology to the stolen generations. This was a landmark in our country’s history and it is hoped that this will spur on further reconciliation and understanding of our First Nations peoples.

As winter is now upon us, we watch the skies anxiously for signs that we will at least get some winter rains, and look forward to an acknowledgement from governments that those who depend upon the arrival of such rains for their livelihoods - and our food - deserve all the help we can give. There are a few organisations set up to deliver aid and support to rural families if you are thinking of a donation.
